2015 NHSCA High School National Wrestling Championships wrap-up

The 26th annual National High School Coaches Association’s High School National Wrestling Championships had another record-breaking year attendance-wise with 3,498 wrestlers descending on Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The Senior Nationals championship round featured three match-ups between nationally-ranked wrestlers with a total of nine ranked wrestlers reaching gold medal matches.

Four wrestlers who won state championships during the 2014-15 season, claimed gold medals at the Sophomore Nationals at the 26th annual National High School Coaches Association's High School National Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

State champions Roman Bravo-Young of Sunnyside HS (Arizona), Joey Silva of Lake Highland Prep (Florida), Aaron Brooks of North Hagerstown HS (Maryland) and Brock Bushfield of Skyview HS (Montana) captured gold in Virginia Beach, while Washington D.C. champ Malcolm Robinson of St. John's College HS also claimed NHSCA gold.

Baseball - All-California final at National High School Invitation

It will be San Clemente vs. College Park in the championship game of the National High School
Invitational in Cary, North Carolina. The two California schools advanced to the title game with victories on Friday.

San Clemente beat Huntington Beach, a Southern California neighbor, 5-1 in the semifinals, while College Park defeated Mosley High School from Florida 13-2.  It was Mosley's first loss of the season.

2015 NHSCA Junior Nationals Preview

This year’s NHSCA Junior Nationals at the 26th Annual National High School Coaches Association's High School National Wrestling Championships finds four wrestlers looking for their third straight national championship.  The Junior Nationals field also includes the return of six wrestlers, who captured 2014 Sophomore National gold medals.

Adding to the strength of the division are the 13 three-time state champions that will grace the mats in Virginia Beach, Virginia, plus there is a large number of wrestlers that have captured between one-and-two state championships entered in every weight class.

2015 NHSCA Freshman Nationals preview

The 9th annual NHSCA Freshman Nationals at the 26th Annual NHSCA High School National Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach this weekend will feature 37 state champs and 34 state runner-ups from around America.  The 106-pound, 113-pound and 132 pound weight classes account for 23 of the state champions. 

Six 2014 NHSCA Middle School National champs are hoping to go back-to-back after very successful freshman high school campaigns.  Who knows, one day, maybe one or more of these Middle School champs can become the NHSCA’s first five-time champs.  Currently there are five 4X NHSCA champions.

Marist's Kenneth Brinson tries to become only the sixth 4X NHSCA Champ

Kenneth Brinson of Marist High School in Atlanta will try to enter a very exclusive club during the Senior Nationals at the 26th Annual NHSCA High School National Wrestling Championships March 27-29, 2015 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Brinson, who is entered in the 220 pound weight class, will try to become the just the sixth wrestler to win four NHSCA national titles.  If Brinson is able to capture another gold medal this year, he’ll join Tyler Beckwith of Greene HS in New York; B.J. Clagon of Toms River South HS in New Jersey; Ryan Millhof of Collins Hills HS in Georgia; Blake Roulo of Matoaca HS in Virginia; and Clay Walker of Eastside HS in South Carolina as the event’s only 4-time champs.

Bergen Catholic crowns four state champs at NJSIAA wrestling championships

Bergen Catholic closed-out the 2014-15 wrestling season by becoming just the third team since World War II to crown four individual state champs.  The Crusaders, the #1 team in New Jersey, went a perfect four-for-four in Sunday's championship round.

Junior Nick Suriano led the way by winning his third straight state title.  His victory in the 120-pound final was his 121st straight victory.

Sunday's finals at the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association wrestling championships will have a familiar look with Bergen Catholic, Bound Brook, Brick Memorial and Delbarton having 14 of the 28 wrestlers in the finals.
