For a while it looked like no team wanted to hang-on to the top spot in the the XCNation.com Boys' High School Cross Country Top 25, but that all changed this week as York High School (Illinois) was able to hold-on to the top spot.
York, coached by legendary cross country coach Joe Newton, remained #1 in the latest Power Rankings that are released every two weeks. For those of you don't know about Coach Newton - he's 84 years old and has led York to 28 Illinois state cross country championships.
Several years ago, a documentary about Coach Newton and his program was made. You can view the trailer to The Long Green Mile above.
Newton was been named the NHSCA's National Boys' Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2003.
Arcadia from California moves up a notch to #2, while preseason #1 Christian Brothers Academy from New Jersey dropped a spot to #3.
On the girls side, Seaholm High School from Michigan, which shared the XCNation.com 2012 national championship with seven-time national champ Fayetteville Manlius from New York moves into the top spot. Seaholm climbed from #4 in the last poll to overtake former #1 Carmel from Indiana.
